Besialu Reef (T-Land)

Known as one of the longest and most consistent left-handers in Indonesia, Besialu Reef is also called T-Land and is named after Java’s iconic G-Land. It offers long, dreamy rides for surfers who crave flow and power. With clean offshore winds during the main season and a solid swell window, the wave works at all tide levels. The reef has three sections called The Peak, The Pyramid, and The Mountain. Each one has its own style, from smooth take-offs to steep walls. This spot is ideal for intermediate to advanced surfers looking for a wave that just keeps going.

The Bommie

Located on the north side of the wide Nemberala channel, The Bommie offers a powerful and thrilling surf experience with both left and right-hand breaks. While the left side is rarely surfed due to its unpredictable shape, the right break is more well-formed and ends in a deep water channel, making it a favorite among skilled surfers. This spot comes alive at lower tides, when the wave becomes faster, hollower, and more challenging—perfect for those chasing adrenaline and precision. The Bommie is best suited for confident surfers who are ready to test their limits.

Squealers

Squealers is Rote’s go-to wave for beginners and anyone looking to just have fun in the water. The name comes from the cheerful screams of stoked first-timers (especially the ladies) catching their very first waves. This mellow spot breaks both left and right, usually best at low tide or during a solid swell on the high. Whether you’re learning to stand up or just cruising on a longboard, Squealers promises good vibes, warm water, and waves made for smiling.

Boa

Located just 10 to 15 minutes from Nemberala, the village of Boa is a quiet escape with a powerful secret: a right-hand reef break that lights up with perfect, hollow barrels when the conditions align. You can reach it by boat, motorbike, or car, and the journey itself feels like part of the adventure. Best surfed during the shoulder seasons, when winds turn offshore here while blowing onshore in Nemberala, Boa delivers clean, fast waves that challenge and reward. If you’re chasing tubes and solitude, this is the spot that’ll steal your attention.

Sucky Mamas

Sucky Mamas is a fast, powerful right-hand wave for surfers who love excitement. Locals call it ‘Sukanamon’, and it’s best for surfers who are confident and have good control. The wave works best at low tide, with quick drops and clean barrel sections. Located away from the main surf spots, reaching Sucky Mamas is part of the fun. A short 10-minute boat ride takes you to a wave that needs skill but gives an amazing feeling in return. Whether you’re chasing technical rides or seeking an uncrowded surf spot off the beaten path, Sucky Mamas is where the challenge begins.
