Rote Island is better known for its beautiful scenery than its wide variety of things to do however, there’s still plenty to keep you occupied on your trip. Here are our top three things to do on the island;

  • Surfing

Rote Island is well known for its incredible surf spots – it even hosts an international surfing competition on Bo’a Beach once a year. Bo’a is one of the top surf spots on the island, however the strong waves and huge barrels mean it’s best suited for advanced surfers. If you’re a beginner, you’d be best sticking to the ‘Squealers’ surf spot, which can be found at the Eastern end of Nembarala Beach and gets its name from the sound of the girls and boys squealing in delight as they play among the waves. If you don’t have your own surf board, you can rent them for a low cost (around 100,000 RP per day) from the surfboard rental shops and just return them when you’re done!

  • Diving

Thanks to the incredible crystal waters, colourful coral gardens, and the presence of unique creatures such as whale sharks, dugong, manta ray and sea turtles, diving on Rote is a beautiful experience. If you need some guidance, there are dive schools on the island with full equipment, facilities and PADI qualified instructors – perfect for brushing up on your existing diving skills or learning new ones.

  • Spa

No relaxing island retreat would be complete without a spa treatment (or two)! There are a few different resorts, hotels and spas on the island that offer treatments ranging from basic manicures to shiatsu and even Aloe Vera massages to help soothe and heal sunburn. After you’ve spent the day surfing, swimming and sunbathing, a calming spa treatment is the perfect way to wind down for the evening.
